8 Times Our B-Town Ladies Gave Us Major Fashion Goals by Reinventing The 6-Yards of Elegance

saree, also known as the six yards of elegance, never goes out of style and looks amazing on every body type. Don’t you agree? You absolutely cannot underestimate the power of a perfectly draped saree. While there are plenty of traditional ways of draping it, but we also like to keep up with the fashion trends, don’t we? Our B-town beauties are constantly reinventing the iconic Indian wear, and we’ve got you all the inspiration you need to follow suit! So here is a list of some of our favourite saree reinventions that you can ask masterji to replicate for you for the next Big Fat Indian wedding or simply for the gram. Check it out!

1. Kangana Ranaut’s Kanjeevaram Saree with a corset and a pair of gloves

We’re all familiar with Kangana Ranaut’s excellent sartorial choices when it comes to fashion. And she is a fan of the six-yard ensemble because we have seen her sporting it even at the airport a bunch of times. But the one that blew our minds was her Cannes 2019 Kanjeevaram Saree from Madhurya Creations with a custom made corset by Falguni and Shane Peacock and a pair of gloves. Now that’s something we would try! You could lose the gloves if you think that’s too OTT, but the corset under the saree – now that’s a winner!

2. Shilpa Shetty’s Jump-Suit Saree

No one can beat Shilpa Shetty when it comes to reinventing the traditional saree. From cinching it on the waist with a belt to wearing it with dhoti pants, Shilpa Shetty has tried and tested everything, and we can’t think of even one style that didn’t look good on her! Which meant it was hard to pick one for this list, but we finally settled for this Anamika Khanna jumpsuit saree that we absolutely cannot get over!

3. Sonam Kapoor’s Distressed Denim Saree with a Shirt as a Blouse

By now we’ve all pretty much established that no fashion list is complete without Sonam Kapoor. So, while this fashion icon has served a ton of uniquely styled saree looks but nothing beats the distressed denim saree from Diksha Khanna with a crisp white shirt as a blouse that she wore at the time of Veere Di Wedding promotions. This look is so fresh and young and also super wearable even for something as simple as a family brunch. We adore it!

4. Esha Gupta’s Assymetrical Saree

This certified hottie served major looks in this fiery red hot asymmetrical number, and we can’t help but drool over it! Saree not Sorry. Such a different take on the traditional six yards, this one would get heads turning! It gives the perfect indo-western vibe with that belt cinching the waist and those Jimmy Choo pumps. We can’t stop looking at it. *sigh*

5. Alia Bhatt’s Frill Saree

While Alia prefers to wear her sarees the traditional way, more often than not, but she did give us major saree goals with this frilled number by Sabyasachi. Alia looked radiant in this gorgeous bottle green and yellow number with her hair tied in a sleek ponytail. This is the kind of saree inspiration we need in our lives, don’t you agree? Besides, frill sarees are having a major moment, so we suggest you invest in one of these for the upcoming festival/Shaadi season.

6. Deepika Padukone’s Cape Saree

You put this stunner in just about anything and you know she will work it! But, we feel her tall and slender frame is essentially tailor-made to be wrapped in a beautiful saree. She can rock pretty much any kind, but we are absolutely loving this Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla cape saree that she wore back when she was just Ms Padukone and not Mrs Padukone Singh. This number looks super sophisticated, and the colour of the cape gives a very royal feel to it. We think this is something that will suit every body type! Besides, who doesn’t want to feel like Superwoman in a saree?

7. Karisma Kapoor’s Saree with a Blazer

Karisma Kapoor, who btw doesn’t look a day over 28, never ceases to amaze us when it comes to fashion. Her style is very sophisticated yet casual and wearable, and we love this about her. This Satya Paul Saree, worn with a blazer, cinched at the waist with a belt, has ‘practical’ written all over it. To get this look all you need is your favourite saree, a blazer and a belt. Everything that you already own, which means no need to burn a hole in your pocket. This elegant and simple look is perfect for the working woman and can be worn for pretty much any occasion. We absolutely love, what about you?

8. Rakul Preet’s Fusion Saree

Rakul Preet’s style game has recently made some major developments, and she has been serving looks left, right and centre. This white fusion number by SVA Couture gives a very boho-chic feel, and we are all for it! What looks like a dhoti style saree worn over-embellished pants/leggings is something we would love to wear. Even the blouse is unique and super stylish. This ensemble is sure to make you feel like a total diva!
