I’m a mommy to an adorable 2-year-old Zaavian whose clearly the apple of my eye and the biggest source of happiness in my life. Work-wise I’m the co-founder of The Pink Post Inc, a shopping platform and events company which was founded 6 years ago.

And could you elaborate on what exactly is The Pink Post Inc?

Interesting. And what does motherhood mean to you? How would you say it has changed you as a person?

Motherhood is a feeling that cannot be described in words but it’s safe to say that it changes you to become the best version of yourself. Its ecstasy, friendship & true love all combined into one. Most easily the best feeling in the world!

That’s so sweet! But have you had to make any changes in your career or goals after becoming a mother?

Being my own boss I always knew that I would be working the hardest but could afford to take a backseat when life demanded it. I’m also very fortunate to have the most understanding and hard-working partner who took over the reins completely for a bit when I just gave birth to Zaavian. That said, I was fully back to work 1 month after Zaavian was born, with flexible working hours because my company is my other baby and I couldn’t stay away too long! Changes I made would be to plan all tasks beforehand and focus on productive work. I planned my meetings around his nap times so I wouldn’t miss spending time with him when he’s awake.

But do you sometimes find it difficult to strike a balance between your work and your family life? And what motivates you to keep going at such times?

I would be lying if I said that any of this is easy! Women are superheroes and they manage the work-life balance with so much ease that people don’t realise how hard it actually is! There are days when I get so overwhelmed & exhausted that I have to step back and take a breather. My main motivation comes from my son for whom I want to provide an example of a happy person, whose happiness comes from both her personal & professional life.

For all working mothers with hectic schedules, what would you say would be the best way to bond or spend time with their kids?

Plan to do one fav activity with your child every day in a routine so they know when to expect you and that will be their fav part of the day too! Putting them to sleep is something which instantly helps me connect with my son with the whole nighttime routine and cuddles, in the end, are a huge bonus.

We’re sure it is! And how do you feel society can be more supportive of working moms?

People need to understand how hard a mothers job really is! Growing up, I heard it from everyone around me that you’ll only fully appreciate your own mothers once you become one. And gosh, I finally realise how true that was. A mother should always have support from everyone around her be it at home or at work. People should be sensitive to the challenges and problems a mother feels each day in trying to bring up the perfect child and to provide and help them in every way they can.

And the last question, Sharnamli, what is the most important piece of advice you have for mothers who are pursuing a career?

Follow your dreams, don’t give up on them. Your child wants to see you happy and fulfilled. Plan, plan, and plan your time. The impossible can be achieved if you just have a plan for your day. Surround yourself with people you trust to take care of your child when you are not around. Husband, grandparents,  a trusted nanny whoever can pitch in.
