For the longest time horror in the Indian entertainment industry has been synonymous with Ram Gopal Verma’s terrible, nowhere near scary, so-called horror films and the TV serial Ssshhh… Koi Hai. But now, finally, there’s a show that will actually keep you up at night. We are talking about Netflix’s new horror cum thriller series – Typewriter! The show has got everyone talking about how scary it is and why it’s a must-watch. Here is everything you need to know about this new horror fest on Netflix.

What is the show about?

Starring Purab Kohli (who doesn’t seem to be ageing at all, what’s this sorcery?) Samir, Kochhar, Palomi Ghosh and Jisshu Sengupta this series is a five-part horror series directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The show revolves around three young friends in Goa who plan to hit up a haunted house in their neighbourhood and capture a ghost.

But when a new family moves in, things go downhill and the villa’s buried past is revealed in the most chilling ways. The core of the mystery, of course, seems to revolve around a typewriter that harbours a grudge against anyone who seems to want to remove it from the house.

So, why is everyone talking about this new series?

The horror series which is currently the talk of the town has garnered mixed reviews. The main verdict on this series is that it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. The show directed by the same man who gave us Kahaani seems all too familiar and may even give you some glimpses of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Though no one disappears here.

The beginning of the show is downright spooky and the first three episodes seem promising enough to keep you going. However, there are several genre shifts. Going from horror to mystery to an action-adventure. That said, it has managed to give people sleepless nights and is definitely worth a watch. Try to avoid doing it at night though!

The series is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, who as we know all too well likes to add an element of surprise in his stories (remember Kahaani?) Ghosh is also known for his critically acclaimed films like Jhankaar Beats, Badla and the short film Ahalya. Alongside writing and directing films, Sujoy also acts with the Bengali mystery-thriller Satyanweshi (2013) being his debut film as an actor. If your one to enjoy nail-biting thrillers, Sujoy’s films should be on top of your must-watch list!
