A popular ski area, the Dachstein glacier is located above the town of Ramsau am Dachstein in Austria. The richly diverse historical and cultural landscape of the Dachstein region, with its abundance of flora and fauna, has earned it the status of a World Natural Heritage site of the very highest order.

The Cable Car

The Dachstein Mountain is 2,995 meters high, and there is a cable car that will take you up, but only 2,700 metres. The cable car needs only 10 minutes to overcome 1000 meters and offers amazing views on the way. But, wait until you reach the top. The view from up there is unbelievable!

The Stairway to Nothingness

The suspension bridge that takes you from the cable car station, with only a vertical wall below your feet, is the latest addition to the Dachstein Skywalk. This leads you to a stairway. Nope, not the stairway to heaven, (though it could be, with the gorgeous view it has to offer.) The Stairway to Nothingness. This is THE selfie spot in the mountains! So get your phones and cameras out and step into the box of nothingness for that perfect picture!

Other Activities

If the viewing platforms aren’t enough, you can also opt for some of the other activities that this place has to offer. You can either hitch a ride on the roof of the gondola, which takes you up or down the 900 metres between the mountain and the valley. Or you can go snowboarding, skiing, climbing, paragliding and hiking depending on the season and snow conditions! You can even check out the Ice Palace where the work of five Chinese ice sculptors is on display.

So, if you’re in the mood to try something new, something that gives you an adrenaline rush, a visit to the Dachstein Skywalk is a must!
