Located in Chanakyapuri, behind Jesus and Mary College is The Treat, which is a food van that is completely covered with pictures of the late Bollywood actor Rajesh Khanna. Along with all the portraits of him, you will also find melodious songs from his movies playing out here.
Touted as one of India’s very first celebrity-themed restaurants it is owned by Mr. Vipin Kumar Oberoi, who is Rajesh Khanna’sbig fan.

The Birth of The Treat

It all started after Vipin Kumar Oberoi watched the movie Aradhana, back in the 1960s and he wanted to meet its lead actor Rajesh Khanna. His much-awaited dream turned into reality when he met the star on the set of his film Ashanti in 1981. After that, he helped Rajesh Khanna in his political endeavour when he was contested for Lok Sabha polls from New Delhi in the 1990s. For him, Kaka is a friend, a philosopher, nothing less than a Godfather figure. He got so submerged into helping the actor that he moved in with him to help him with the campaign. This started to strain the relationship with his wife who ended up asking him to choose between him and Rajesh Khanna. Then, it was Kaka who consoled him, guided him, and later advised him to open a food van. This is how The Treat was born!

How Can We Miss The Food!

From out of 40 dishes 25 of them are selected by the legendary actor himself. Serving a variety of Punjabi-Chinese dishes, it is open throughout the week. But don’t miss the yummy and the legend’s favourite dish- Mutton Kofta!

Did we mention that they also serve free food? Yes, The Treat serves customers free food twice every year — on December 29 (Rajesh Khanna’s birthday) and July 18, the day he passed away. So if you haven’t been to this place yet, it’s time you do!
