Delhi peeps, how well do you know your city? While we all know the capital boasts of some amazingly famous Gurudwras, like Bangla Sahib, but there are a bunch of peaceful and serene ones in the city you probably didn’t know of. Read on!

1. Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib

One of the most significant Sikh worship places in Delhi, Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib holds special significance in the history. It’s the place where the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur was cremated. It’s housed within a huge complex made of white marble. The main shrine is built on a higher pedestal, with entrances on all four sides. The entrance signifies that it is open to all, irrespective of caste or creed. Built on Pant road facing the Parliament house, the Gurudwara is surrounded  by a beautiful garden too. Totally worth a visit!

2. Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib

Located in the heart of Chandni Chowk, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib is a historical shrine and was built to mark the death of the ninth Sikh Guru Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1783. It has a separate building that serves as the Langar as well as accommodation for the visitors. It even houses the tree under which he was executed. Devotees come here to pay their respects to the brave Sikh Guru. When looking for some peace and serenity, don’t miss this amazing sacred gem!

3. Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila

Do you know the unusual story connected in the making of this Gurudwara? It’s said that once a young Muslim hermit used to live at this place and met with the Great Guru Nanak. He was so engrossed in devotion to God and in meditation that the world never seemed to interest him, and people started to refer to him as a Majnu. And one day seeing his devotion, Guru Nanak Ji blessed Manju again and told him that his name will never be forgotten and that’s how this Gurudwara came into existence. Majnu Ka Tila Gurudwara stands on white marble and has a majestic top since it is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna.

4. Gurudwara Damdama Sahib

The Damdama Sahib is one of the prime Gurudwaras in Delhi. The origin of the Gurudwara goes back to the tenth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh. This commemorates the meeting of the 10th guru and the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar in the year 1707. The Gurudwara also celebrates Hola Mohalla each year and pilgrims come here in large numbers in the months of February and March.

5. Gurudwara Nanak Piao

Gurudwara Nanak Piao is dedicated to Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikh community. According to the history, Guru Nanak Ji used to sit in the nearby garden, where he use to sing bhajans and offer water & food to the needy people; thus, the name of the Gurdwara came out to be Nanak Piao. The exit from sanctum leads you to a small pond with fish in it. So if you’re looking for some peace and quiet, head to sacred Nanak Piao Gurudwara!

6. Gurudwara Bala Sahib

Gurudwara Bala Sahib is one of the most well-known places and was built to commemorate the memory of the eighth Sikh guru Guru Harikrishan Sahib and his two wives. Also, the Guru was known for his healing touch. Guru Harikrishan Sahib was cremated at the same spot where the Gurdwara has been raised. Both the old and new buildings of the Gurdwara are situated side by side.
