Guys, did you know that India has a mineral museum of its own? Yes, all the geology enthusiasts, that’s right! The Gargoti Museum in Nashik is the only museum in India that displays the mineral treasures of the earth and it is also the world’s biggest ‘private’ gem and minerals museum! Here’s everything there is to know about this museum.W

This museum is founded by Mr Krishna Chandra Pandey, an ex-merchant navy officer. And it features his own personal collection of minerals which he has accumulated over 40 years. He’s ex-Merchant Navy personnel, so his interest only seems natural!

What Can You Find Inside?

You’ll be amazed to know that this museum houses an extensive collection of zeolites. Confused? They are microporous crystalline solids with well defined rich structures, just like diamonds and other precious stones. The exhibits in the museums include a specimen of diamonds, cut stones, light green cubical apophyllite, crystals of yellow calcite, blue-green aquamarine, cavansite and rare foreign minerals. Here are some of the beautiful minerals and gemstones that you must not miss on your visit to the museum.

Rose Quartz: Even though it’s thought of as the symbol of love, it’s not just romantic love that rose quartz crystal represents. The rose quartz stone signifies unconditional love.
Amethyst: This is the stone of concentration. It’s one of the most attractive gemstones.
Precious Metal: Precious metals have historically been as valuable as currency, but are now considered primarily as an investment and industrial commodities

 Green Apophyllite– Apophyllite has a strong action to aid spiritual healing on a deep soul level. This stone helps to aid depression, anxiety and stress-related issues.

You will find exhibits displayed in two galleries – ‘The Prestige Gallery’ on the ground floor and ‘Minerals from the Deccan Plateau’ which are located on the first floor. Those interested can also shop from the souvenir shop attached to the museum. Here you’ll find necklaces, mineral specimen, precious stone items, postcard pictures and posters.

Timings & Entry Fee

The museum is open 24 hours on all days of the week, and you can visit the museum at any time between 10:00 a.m to 10:00 p.m. But, you need to take a prior appointment to visit the museum at any other time. The entry fee is Rs. 100/- per person, including the guide fees.
