    The Ladder Theory

A few years ago Mel Gibson tried to reveal the secrets of the female mind in the movie What Women Want. In the movie Gibson played out the role of Nick Marshall, a male chauvinist ad executive who gets the power to hear the thoughts of women. Now isn’t that a power that we’d all like to have especially if one lived in a vibrant city like New York or Amsterdam (New York City was actually a 17th century Dutch colonial town known at the point as New Amsterdam).

Unfortunately in real life such powers are hard to achieve so people often resort to reading books and asking friends about their queries on “how to decipher the female mind“. What does a woman really mean when she says that “I want a man who is motivated and has goals“. Well, believe it or not there does exist a theory which can to an extent explain “How the female mind works or What women really want“. This theory is called the Ladder Theory and applies mostly to single men and women.

The Ladder Theory works on a simple principle, which goes something like this:

Everytime you meet someone interesting you give them a quick mental rating. In other words everytime you meet someone you place her/him at a particular position on your imaginary ladder.

So if you are a man meeting a woman you would primarily judge her based on her looks. Looks comprise of various facets such as appearance, body type, way of speaking, personality etc. For long term associations these may also include factors such as level of education, family background etc. These factors have a weightage of upto 65% on your rating system. Another 25% depends on whether you think you would be able to make her fall for you, while the remaining 10% varies from person to person. Now that’s not to complex considering the rating system that women have.

Women judge men based on the following:

    • Money/Power: All though all women may deny it, the hard truth is that they would anyday marry someone who is rich and powerful than marry someone who is poor but looks like Adonis. Now only such a fact can explain why the american rap stars have so many women around them or why hugh hefner at the age of 80 has women swooning over him all the time. Money and Power have a weightage of 50-60% on the female rating scale. So when a woman says that “I want a man who is motivated and has goals” or “I want a man who knows how to treat a woman“, she really means to say that “I want a Rich Man“.
    • Competition: The ladder theory proclaims that, A man who is devoted to something else besides the woman is more attractive to her than a man who shows too much interest in the woman he likes. Which basically means that, a man should never pay too much attention on the object of his fancy else his chances of being fancied by her drop drastically. This factor has a weightage of about 20%.
    • Novelty: And finally the last factor that women dig is your novelty or ability to be different. So even if you score low on the money front but happen to be a member of a rock band or a sports team you have a good chance of being popular among the females. Which explains why all the cheerleaders in an american college go around with members of the football team. This factor again has a weightage of 20%.

So basically the higher the number of points you give to someone the higher he/she is placed on your ladder. Now, it is separate matter all together that women have not one but two ladders each serving a different purpose while men have only one ladder. The ladder theory also touches on a topic that most men believe but most women deny and it is the statement that “A man and a woman can never just be good friends“. So now, if you are intrigued and curious to know more about this theory then go check it out. On the other hand if you don’t agree with a word of what is written here then please bear in mind that we have nothing to do with it.
