07/07/07 – The Day The Earth Came Alive

1007

7 Continents, 7 Oceans, 7 colors of the Rainbow and 7 Wonders of the World( we probably have the new 7 Wonders of the World, check here ). So when you have a day in the year that reads 07/07/07, it’s bound to draw attention and as it turned out it was one hell of day all across the world.

7th July, 2007 witnessed, concerts all across the world as a part of the LIVE EARTH initiative, a ceremony announcing the new 7 wonders of the world and thousands of weddings across the globe(As 7 is supposed to indicate Venus and Love). Surely a day of hyperactivity and fun. The number seven is considered lucky due to its frequent and favorable appearance in the Bible, say historians. “As the number of the days of God’s first week, of the levels of heaven…of the numbers of angels and trumpets, etc., the number came in the last few centuries BCE to represent divine perfection,” said David Frankfurter, professor of religious studies and history at the University of New Hampshire. “Something organized seven-fold meant that it corresponded to God’s own arrangement”(Source).

The Biggest Event of the Day however was the LIVE EARTH concert held across all 7 continents of the world. The 24 hour around the world concert held in the cities of Tokyo, Shanghai, Hamburg, London, New York, Sydney, Johannesburg and Rio De Janeiro apart from some more smaller concerts in other cities was certainly a one of it’s kind event aimed at a spreading awareness about climate control and global warming. The concert featured well known artists from all over the world like madonna, red hot chilli peppers, linkin park, rihanna, snoop dog, shakira, enrique iglesias, black eyed peas, metallica and many many more. Thousands of people across the globe attended these concerts which were also broadcast on leading television channels across the world. For those watching on television, the breaks carried many messages and short films explaining the impact of global warming and how grave our future would be if don’t start reducing our carbon footprint on the planet.

If we can just change our habits a little bit by following steps like:

  • Switching to energy saving fluroscent lamps and not using bulbs.
  • Using Cars and Vehicles running on Fossil fuels as seldom as possible.
  • Keeping the tires of your vehicles well inflated and increasing the mileage of your vehicle by getting regular checkups.
  • Preventing the use polythene bags and using paper bags instead.
  • Turning off lights and electrical appliances when they are not in use.

we can greatly help reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions and help better the future of our planet. If you wish to get more information on how you can help protect the earth then visit liveearth.msn.com. If you missed these amazing concerts, then catch a glimpse of them across 5 different cities.

Let’s see what lies in store on 8/8/08 (apart from the inaugration of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing).
