Movie Experience:

The Superheroes are getting more human, that is what seems to be the latest trend amongst the superhero flicks. After a not so super Superman Returns which came out last year and focussed more on Superman’s emotional life. The latest and much awaited sequel to Spiderman 2, almost does the same. Sam Raimi returns with the same team as that of the last two movies and this time the movie is more about Peter Parker than Spiderman.

The movie starts off with Peter Parker telling us how good his life seems to be. He’s successfully able to manage his work and studies, spiderman is really famous and popular and above all he’s got a girlfriend( isn’t that always a relief). The problems start to come in when spidy’s girlfriend Mary Jane is replaced from a broadway musical and has to go through the rigours of life to make a living, while her boyfriend is the most famous and loved person in the city. The rest of the first half is quite boring with most of the focus on peter parker and his problems with Mary Jane. There is no sign of black spidey till the very end, the highlights of the first half are a few action sequences and the conversion of Flint Marko(played by Thomas Haden Church) to Sandman.

The fun starts in the second half which has most of the action and the evil or more extrovert spidey is a treat too watch. It somehow is always fun to watch the superheros when they become evil, one still remembers the super performance by christopher reeve as the evil superman in Superman -3. The second half also sees spidey turning back to good and the formation of yet another villain, the spidey look alike Venom.

Spiderman - 3 was made at a cost of $268 million dollars, so needless to say that the visual effects are amazing. Although you won’t really notice them too much, cause they are kind of expected with any big budget hollywood superhero flick. Sam Raimi and his crew do a great job, although Tobey Maguire now seems to be a little less convincing as Spiderman and it might be a good idea to have new one for the next installment. Tobey had earlier declined from starring in Spiderman 4, but he might just rethink his decision. (read here)

So go ahead and catch the latest spidey flick, it’s not as good as the first two but it’s definetly worth a watch. Speaking of the 3, there are a lot more of those coming up in the next month like Shrek - 3, Oceans 13 and Pirates of the Carribean 3.

    Dude!!
I think that the flick was awesome. How can you say that it was boring?? I think that it was nicely paced and had all the much needed masala which goes a long way in creating a cool movie.

I mean you\’re not a kid anymore and just want the action scenes. There are so many other spectators who do not have the background about Spidey, MJ, Eddie Broc, JJJ, Hop Goblin, Green Goblin, Venom, Carnage, Ben Parker… To create a larger fan following, it is a must that every flick has a little background to attract more people who get to know what\’s going on and why?

The first half which you have signed off as boring is actually so interesting! It shows the nerdy side of Parker who is just a human and lets appreciation get to his head. The dance that Toby did is also awesome.

All in all, I think that it was an amazing movie.
