After the moderate success of Dhoom 2, YashRaj Films is back again. This time with Ta Ra Rum Pum, India’s first ever movie based on car racing . Seasoned script writer and director Siddharth Anand who previously directed Saif Khan in Salaam Namaste does a good job although the movie could have done with a little more action and less emotions.
Ta Ra Rum Pum is not an out and out car racing film.Although it’s inspired from the Tom Cruise flick Days Of Thunder, the writers choose to indianize it by focussing more on the family matters of hot blooded racer R.V.Singh (Saif Khan). Shot extensively in New York, the film is all about how R.V, a cab driver in new york goes on to become the Nascar Champion. After establishing himself as the number 1 in the racing circuit, RV get’s serioulsy injured in a car crash in one of the races and has to take an year off to recuperate. The rest of the film focusses on his struggle to get back to the top and how he faces up to the financial crisis his lavish spending ways land him up in, when he hits rock bottom as a car racer.
The movie starts off really well with a few peppy and zingy dance tracks followed by some racing action. It kinda slows down towards the middle before picking up again towards the end. Saif Khan and Rani Mukherjee once again put in great performances and so do the 2 child stars. Ta Ra Rum Pum sees Javed Jaffery back in action too and this time his role is much more meatier than what it was in Salaam Namaste( ejjactlly).
All in all a great family entertainer, with action for the youngsters, drama for the adults and kiddie fun for the young kids. One hopes that Karan Johar would also learn a thing or two from Aditya Chopra, who’s seems to have a good sense of movies.
