Ever thought of really cleaning your house up and getting rid of all those papers, documents, bills that have been lying around for years. If you have, chances are that you’ll end up finding something really interesting, that’ll make you go back in time and think long and hard as to how much the times have changed.
A certain Mr.Chopra had a similar experience when he went rummaging into all the papers in his house.Whilst doing so a yellowish,torn-out piece of paper caught his eye and made him stare at it for a long time. No,it wasn’t his first love letter, rather it was the Bill of his first Desktop Computer that he had bought in the year 1996.On special request, he decided to lend a copy to Delhi Planet. Here it is
Well just looking at the configuration makes you smile, you tend to think to yourself “I actually bought and worked on this machine“. Compare this with a configuration of Mr.Chopra’s recent desktop Intel P4 3 Ghz ,512 Mb RAM,80 Gb HDD,17″ Flat Monitor,Keyboard,Optical Mouse,UPS which cost him half what it cost him in 1996. 10 years ahead what is the future of computing going to be like .It could be a $100 Laptop,a Thin Client PC or maybe if you’re too optimistic a robot that serves all your needs and gives you all the information you want.
So the next time you come across some crumpled old bill you might just want to keep it, cause it may just end up on a website like this.

pretty nostalgic it was…thnx a lot Kris!
Last ten years saw the display size increase, in nxt 10, u might be wearing ur displays! instead of rise in processor clock speeds, there could be a fall; with number of cores increasing (Intel already prototyped quad-core this december). your eyes might replace the mouse and ur voice d keyboard, n u won\’t need separate RAM n HDD, coz all u might need is a finger-nail sized 1 TB MRAM Chip. fully compatible with ur in-ear music player!
Lets c vat future brings for us…

I can see that Mr. Chopra is quite a techie and can pretty well predict a future when it comes to technology. BTW why has Mr Chopra taken a ‘kachhi’ receipt, I believe there was no VAT and Service Tax at that time

Manish, I am quite sure there was no VAT at the time, but yes maybe Mr.Chopra could shed some light on it.

ya Manish, it was just a ‘kachhi’ receipt as u pointed out; more of a checklist (it was bought from a family friend; tech mkt being pretty nascent at dat time, and unlike what happens presently, it was unwise to go out to any dealer just buy stuff), rather than actual proof of purchase. Ironically, i guess d actual bill cudn’t survive the time-trial! incidently, Mr. Chopra referred to in dat receipt happens to be my Dad
